Creole Mackerel

Serves 2

Have this Creole mackerel with cassava, baked sweet potato or oven fries. The dinner party can begin. Serve with a fresh red onion pickle or a boiled egg if desired!


  • 300 grams of fillet of mackerel (buy fillet or whole mackerel)
  • 90 grams of Creole spice paste from Sorgh & Hoop
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion or 3 tbsp sliced onion
  • 1 chopped tomatoes and 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 tsp chopped fresh pepper


  • Finely chop 1 onion and garlic.
  • Dice tomato.
  • Clean the mackerel. Remove the skin. After this, remove large pieces of fish from the bone and set aside.


  • Add the oil and 2 Tbsp of Creole spice paste in a skillet.
  • Add the sliced onion and tomatoes. Stir fry for 5 minutes.
  • Gently fry the pieces of Mackerel in the pan with the marinade.
  • If necessary, add more tomato paste and pepper to taste.


  • Delicious with oven fries either sweet potato that you boil or fry in slices in a pan or grill smeared with oil.

  • Boil an egg to go with it.

  • Fry peas or beans through it or pieces of bell bell pepper.

  • Make a sweet and sour, spicy salad of red onion pickles.
